Advanced Alteration Techniques

Participants will be able to apply the proper methods of alteration to the various types of garments. This course is highly recommended for people who are involved in the fashion retail service sector and designers to cater to the demands of customers who require clothing alterations or modifications to fit their body. Participants will be involved in the active learning of garment fit evaluation and pinning for alteration through simulated samples and ready-made clothing on more complex apparels such as gowns and more structured tailored apparels.

Programme Outcomes

Identify Advanced Alteration Techniques and Appropriate Machinery

Recognise various advanced garment alteration methods and determine the suitable machinery to achieve industry-standard finishes.

Perform Complex Alterations on Lined Garments

Execute intricate alterations on lined garments, including woven evening gowns, wedding dresses, and tailored suits, adhering to professional standards.

Ensure Precision in Alteration Markings and Measurements

Accurately transfer alteration markings onto garments and measure the altered pieces against given specifications to ensure compliance with industry norms.

Admission Requirements
Singaporean or Singapore PR
  • Aged 16 years and above 

  • Course fee funding eligibility : SCs and PRs (Self-sponsored individuals must be at least 21 years old)

  • GCE ‘N’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR WSQ ES WPLN Level 4 and above

  • ALL Students are required to have basic knowledge of computer and Microsoft Office

  • ALL students must be competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies:

    • a) Drafting and Sewing: Dress OR

    • b) Intermediate Drafting and Sewing

  • ALL students must be competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies: a) Intermediate Alteration Techniques

International Students
  • Aged 16 years and above

  • High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘N’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR Qualifications from professional institutes may be considered on a case-by-case basis AND Pass TaF.tc Entrance Test AND

  • English Language Requirement – Possess a minimum credit in English at GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent OR IELTS score 5.5 or TOEFL score 46 AND

  • Students are required to have basic computing skills i.e. turn on the laptop, use the mouse, drag and drop files, use online search engine for research; and be a competent user of Microsoft Office.

  • ALL students must be competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies:

    • a) Drafting and Sewing: Dress OR

    • b) Intermediate Drafting and Sewing

  • ALL students must be competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies: a) Intermediate Alteration Techniques

Graduation Requirements
Singaporean or Singapore PR
  • 75% attendance rate of total training hours per module

  • Be found competent during written, practical and oral assessments

International Students
  • 75% attendance rate of total training hours per module. Student Pass Holders – a minimum of 90% attendance per month will be required.

  • Be found competent during written, practical and oral assessments.
