Overview

Participants will be able to apply the proper methods of alteration to the various types of garments. This course is highly recommended for people who are involved in the fashion retail service sector and designers to cater to the demands of customers who require clothing alterations or modifications to fit their body. Participants will be involved in the active learning of garment fit evaluation and pinning for alteration through simulated samples and ready-made clothing on more complex apparels such as gowns and more structured tailored apparels.

Objectives
  • Identify the various advanced skills in garment alteration & the appropriate type of machine used to achieve the required finishes as per industry norms.
  • Perform alterations on garment using a variety of alteration techniques on lined garments.
  • Perform complex alterations on woven evening/wedding gowns and suits as per industry norms.
  • Transfer the required alteration with proper markings onto the garment as per industry norms.
  • Alter the garment based on marking using proper sewing and finishing machines as per industry norms.
  • Measure altered garment against the given specification as per industry norms.

  • Type of fit and ease.
  • Types of seams and stitches.
  • Pinning techniques on fitted garments.
  • Thread, operate & maintain lockstitch (301) and over the edge (504/514) and cover stitch sewing machines.

Items Required For Class

Before your class begins, we'd like you to make sure that you have the following items so that the class can proceed smoothly.

  • Garment - TaF.tc will provide samples.
  • Tape Measures and Pins - Accessories.

Students are required to bring their Stationery too. List of stationery has been stated below.

  1. Pen
  2. Correction tape/fluid
  3. 2B Pencil (and sharpener or extra lead depending on type of pencil used)
  4. Eraser/Rubber
  5. 1-inch paper masking tape
  6. Glue stick
  7. Notebook
  8. Calculator

Sewing Toolkit and Marker paper

Attached is the new TaF.tc Sewing Toolkit list and Marker Paper requirements. The toolkit is required for ALL students who take TaF.tc’s Sewing Courses for all new sign-ups from 1 March 2024 onwards.

You will need a laptop OR computer OR tablet, whichever you prefer, for viewing your E-books and completing class work.

FAQs

We highly discourage you from missing any classes since the entire program is designed to be hands-on intensive. There is also a minimum attendance requirement of 75% of training hours for Singaporean and PRs, and 90% of training hours for international students. If you do not meet the 75% attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to enjoy subsidies nor to sit for the assessment. Make sure you block off your time during your training with us or find an intake option that will ensure you do not miss any classes. You will only wish that you had more time in the class!

We do not offer any make-up or replacement classes.

Yes! You can use any SkillsFuture Credits you have to pay for course fees.
