Culottes, an international fashion trend which is timeless and make fashion statement will look very chic when pair with boots, heels, sandals or sneakers.

Overview

This unit aims to equip apparel production personnel with a foundation in pattern development and garment construction for the apparel industry. These include the skill and knowledge of interpreting designs and developing patterns based on given specifications and measurements for garment construction in accordance with industry standards. The participants will learn the techniques of laying fabric, cutting, sewing and applying proper finishing of the various components of a pair of Culottes. This unit is delivered through pattern drafting on white board, demonstrations and hands-on sewing operations.

Objectives
  • Identify the pattern pieces, sewing operations bulletin, and/or processes required to construct the garment in accordance with industry standards.
  • Draft patterns of Culottes based on a given size specs or measurements taken from the human body using manipulation methods.
  • Label and mark individual pattern pieces with symbols and notches based on industry practices.
  • Lay patterns and cut fabric panels by optimizing fabric consumption.
  • Sew Culottes with side pockets, concealed zipper, and a straight waistband according to specifications.
  • Evaluate product outcomes in accordance with quality standards as per industry norms.
  • Take follow-up actions for non-conformance.
Certificate Issuance
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be awarded a TaF.tc Certificate in Drafting Culottes and Variations of Women's Casual Pants/Shorts.

Items Required For Class

Before your class begins, we'd like you to make sure that you have the following items so that the class can proceed smoothly.

The following items are compulsory for students to bring:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Fabric/Lining requirements are based on standard medium sizing. Please purchase additional yardage for larger sizes.
  • Fabric for the Culottes - Mid-weight cotton or suiting fabrics suitable for making bottoms ( 2.5 metres for 45"/114cm width )  
    • We advise you to get fabrics that are not too soft and slippery.
    • Additionally, solid color fabric is highly recommended. Clearly mark which is the face and back of the fabric.
    • If you prefer to get prints, please get prints that are non-directional and can be cut in either direction. For example, if you get a dinosaur print, you must make sure the dinosaurs are looking in all different directions and not just one.
  • For Culottes - 1 spool of matching colour thread (100m to 250m, 100% polyester)
  • For Culottes - 1 set of Bar & Hook (12 mm).
  • For Culottes - 0.5 metre of non-woven fusible interlining/interfacing ( Freudenberg AP68, 47g/m2 ).
  • 1 concealed zipper (length 23 cm, YKK only).
  • 4 metres of marker/drafting paper ( 45 gsm, 160cm width ).

Students are required to bring their Stationery too. The list of stationery has been stated below.

  3. 2B Pencil (and sharpener or extra lead depending on type of pencil used)
  4. Eraser/Rubber
  5. 1-inch paper masking tape
  6. Glue stick
  7. Notebook
  8. Calculator

All students who take TaF.tc's Sewing Courses are required to bring their own Sewing Toolkit and Drafting Paper for class.

We highly discourage you from missing any classes since the entire program is designed to be hands-on intensive. There is also a minimum attendance requirement of 75% of training hours for Singaporean and PRs, and 90% of training hours for international students. If you do not meet the 75% attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to enjoy subsidies nor to sit for the assessment. Make sure you block off your time during your training with us or find an intake option that will ensure you do not miss any classes. You will only wish that you had more time in the class!
