Overview

The Master Series: Ladies’ Gown is an intensive and comprehensive course designed for experienced dressmakers and fashion professionals looking to expand their expertise in creating sophisticated ladies' gowns. This advanced-level course will focus on various gown silhouettes, including corseted bodices, lining application techniques, long layered skirts, and precise boning according to individual body measurements. Participants will gain a deep understanding of advanced construction techniques and fabric manipulation to create luxurious and tailored gowns. You will be required to create a complete ladies' gown with a corseted bodice and a long layered skirt based on own body measurements or given size specification. The final gown should demonstrate the application of the skills and techniques learned throughout the course. By the end of this course, participants will have the confidence and skillset to create exquisite, custom-made ladies' gowns, making them well-prepared for a rewarding career in fashion design or dressmaking. This unit is delivered through demonstrations and hands-on sewing operations.

Admissions

To enrol, you must fulfil the following requirements

Aged 16 years and above

 and 2

Course fee funding eligibility : SCs and PRs (Self-sponsored individuals must be at least 21 years old)

 and 3

Possess at least 3 GCE ‘N’ Level credits including English and Mathematics OR ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 4 and above

 and 4

Students are required to have basic computing skills i.e. turn on the laptop, use the mouse, drag and drop files, use online search engine for research; and be a competent user of Microsoft Office.

All students must also be competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies: Drafting and Sewing: Dress

All students must also be competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies: Advanced Pattern Manipulation and Development of Dress

Graduation

To graduate, you must fulfil the following requirements

75% attendance rate of total training hours per module

International Students

To enrol, you must fulfil the following requirements

High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘N’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR Qualifications from professional institutes may be considered on a case-by-case basis

English Requirements: Possess a minimum credit in English at GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent OR IELTS score 5.5 or TOEFL score 46

Items Required For Class

Before your class begins, we'd like you to make sure that you have the following items so that the class can proceed smoothly.

The following items are compulsory for students to bring:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Fabric/Lining requirements are based on standard medium sizing. Please purchase additional yardage for larger sizes.
  • Fabric for Fitted Corset Top with Long Skirt - Mikado, Duchess Satin, Sat, Organza, Organdy, Tulle, Laces.
    • Fabrics from Eng Cheng Textiles.
    • Must use at least 55 inches wide polyester fabrics.
    • 7 metres for smaller long skirts and up to 12 metres for full circular ball gown skirts ( 45"/114cm width ).
    • We advise you to get fabrics that are not too soft and slippery.
    • Additionally, solid color fabric is highly recommended. Clearly mark which is the face and back of the fabric.
    • If you prefer to get prints, please get prints that are non-directional and can be cut in either direction. For example, if you get a dinosaur print, you must make sure the dinosaurs are looking in all different directions and not just one.
  • As per main fabric - Lining ( Cotton lawn, Tencel).
  • For Fitted Corset Top with Long Skirt - 1 spool of matching colour thread (100m to 250m, 100% polyester).
  • 1 metre of either medium to stiff nonwoven or woven interfacing for corset bodice (to be advised during class as this is dependent on the main fabric used) for Interlining/Interfacing - For Fitted Corset Top with Long Skirt.
  • For Fitted Corset Top with Long Skirt - 1 Concealed zip 18 - 22 inches ( based on body length Zipper ) (YKK Only).
  • Accessories :
    • LNS - 3 metres transparent boning [4.8mm x 1.8mm ].
    • a pair of bust cup inserts.
    • industrial machine needle [size 9/65].
    • a pair of pinking shears.
  • 1 metre of marker/drafting paper ( 45 gsm, 160cm width ).

Students are required to bring their Stationery too. The list of stationery has been stated below.

  3. 2B Pencil (and sharpener or extra lead depending on the type of pencil used)
  4. Eraser/Rubber
  5. 1-inch paper masking tape
  6. Glue stick
  7. Notebook
  8. Calculator

All students who take TaF.tc's Sewing Courses are required to bring their own Sewing Toolkit and Drafting Paper for class.

FAQs

We highly discourage you from missing any classes since the entire program is designed to be hands-on intensive. There is also a minimum attendance requirement of 75% of training hours for Singaporean and PRs, and 90% of training hours for international students. If you do not meet the 75% attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to enjoy subsidies nor to sit for the assessment. Make sure you block off your time during your training with us or find an intake option that will ensure you do not miss any classes. You will only wish that you had more time in the class!

We do not offer any make-up or replacement classes.

Yes! You can use any SkillsFuture Credits you have to pay for course fees.
